Nice case, but if the graphics card is as good as you say, then you should have at least 1Gb of RAM to do the system any justice. Unless you're not using it for gaming of course, in which case there isn't much point in a high-end card. |

Awesome! Schnazzy look.
Now, I agree on the RAM. I have 512mb, and i need to upgrade, soon. Good Hard drive also.
Half Life 2 will absolutely FLY on your computer if you get at least 1GB RAM.
If this is mainly for games, may I suggest a few?
Far Cry
Doom 3
Half Life 2 (just...duh)
Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind- an very open ended RPG that had me addicted for 150+ hrs of gameplay
and Rome: Total War _________________ Adam|

You do know that video memory and system memory aren't one and the same, right? Just because you have tons of one doesn't mean you can skimp on the other. 512 megs of system RAM, especially if you're running XP, won't get you very far with newer games. One bottleneck can choke the rest of your system, regardless of how much video memory you've got.
And about HL2... Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the 5700 (hardly top-of-the-line anymore) only supports DX8, not 9. Although the differences in something like Hl2 aren't hugely noticeable, keep that in mind if you think you're set for a few years as you'll be missing out on new DX9-enabled games' features. You can see roughly where your card might rank on this chart:
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/vga_charts-08.html
I don't mean to rain on your excitement, just wanted to point out some things you might not've realized. Anyway, hope it's informative.

Hmmm.. my bad, I guess.
I have an nVidia Geforce FX 5200 128mb video card, and 512mb ram, and im running Half Life 2 very well, sand a tad long loading time.
I am, also, running DX9. I just assumed that with 256mb Video Card and a bit more RAM, that Half Life 2 would go very fast.
My name is Adam, and I need to learn about system specs. _________________ Adam|

I have far-cry, it runs real smooth, and my CD key is broken for HL2 so I cant test it out yet, but im not willing to spend that much better for barley noticeable graphics but still, it will be very easy for me 2 upgrade when games stop running smothly. _________________

Really? Inside HL2, is your DX setting listed as 9? Maybe the 256mb level FX5700 can handle DX9, who knows. But you're right, with more system RAM he'd probably be able to handle it ok, but load times and maybe stuttering might be issues.
In response to Quzai: well yay then. I'm glad things are working out, I didn't mean to sound like I was trashing your system (I've got one very similar to that anyway).
Happy gaming.

Wow! But you call it a spazzy case? It's a beautiful snazy case. I might be getting one of those ones that glowes blue for my birthday, but you got there first.
In fact, I was looking at all those cases in PC world just Thursday!
Congrats on the beauty of your machine! |
