For Better or For Worse, the comic strip that once was a beautiful, heartwarming strip but turned into a preachy soap opera, has finally ended with this strip today.

http://www.fborfw.com/strip_fix/archives/003335.php

I must admit, as far as preachy monolouges go, it's not half bad.

...except for the fact that reruns of the strip will be occupying the same real estate on the comics page instead of some new strip. While I don't get the vitriolic internet hate for FBOFW, it still irks me to see reruns and rehashes of decades old strips taking precedence over new and funny stuff that's being written today, but what do I know. I think I'm one of the few people under forty who physically reads the newspaper on a daily basis, so I guess I'm not the target demographic.

I really liked "For Better or For Worse". Sure it had some boring parts but I thought it was a great strip.

I used to absolutely LOVE the strip, but after Michael and Deanna got married, the whole thing just jumped the shark.

Anyone happen to see today's strip? My God...who actually reads all that? Also, I think Johnston takes her work a little too seriously. Wink

I never really liked that strip. I always went for the funny ones. Speaking of which, my newspaper is dropping three of my favorite comics; Garfield, Hagar the Horrible, and Rubes to save space!! Evil or Very Mad

Yeah, I love Pearls Before Swine. Its dark humor can be outright hilarious at times, like when Pig thinks that a slaughtering house is actually a singles bar.

I predicted it would end after reading the comic from the week before. It was great until Micheal got married then it all went downhill.

My local paper cut Pearls Before Swine. It was never one of my faves but still a good strip. My favourite strip is Foxtrot.

Foxtrot...yeah...too bad he retired to the Sundays, though. My paper replaced it with stupid "F-Minus". Mad

My paper replaced it with "Get Fuzzie" the most immature comic ever. Sure, it's hilarious: WHEN YOUR'E 5!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing compared to Foxtrot

Hey, now. I have connections to Tony Carrillo. His comic today was actually really good.

Awww. It wasn't anywhere near my favorite, but I thought it was sweet. I'm sad to see it go. Call me sappy, I guess.

'Course, give me Sherman's Lagoon and Pearls Before Swine any old day.

Wow, I had no idea that strip was even still going. Probably the last time I read one was 10-15 years ago.

Long live Garfield!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, come one, I rather like it. The humor is actually intended more for adults in many cases, due to references and...*ahem*...stuff. Wink

I don't really hate F-Minus, it's just that some of the strips are just plain stupid, and the artwork....I don't know, it just sort of creeps me out. Today's comic was kinda of funny, I guess.

I didn't really get it...

It was o.k., I'm not a big fan of "For Better or For Worse". I much prefer "Calvin and Hobbes". Cool

Totally seconded, that's just a generally fun strip. Not so preachy too. Sure, WAtterson rasies some important issues, but it's all in good fun... Very Happy

To be honest, I liked For Better or For Worse. But I love most of the comics my paper runs, no matter what they are. (With the exception of "Cathy")

Could be that it was intended for a specific audience, you know, like how Cathy is focused for embittered and * bleep * women, and how B.C. is catered to idiots. I enjoyed it, back when I read such things. It had an almost honest, if sugar-coated, quality to it. And it relied on a story over goofiness, which was refreshing on a page filled by writing-by-committee numbers like Garfield.

As I said before, I used too love FBofW, especially in the interim between Farley's death and Michael's marraige. I found it to be very touching and emotional (Which is weird for me). However, in recent years, the storylines are either overly sappy, or she focuses too much on Mike's family, where the jokes mainly consist of lame puns. Overall, it is a good strip, much better than the likes of Garfield or the current B.C. (It tanked immediately after Hart passed away). Lately, though, it's just been...meh.

Where I am getting disappointed is the re-departure of Opus... I've loved all the incarnations from Bloom County to Outland to this current version... it will be missed...
