(Download question is in a post down that way \/ Razz )

Hello all, Computer Idiot here.

As I run out of real bricks to play with, I'm strongly considering downloading MLCad.

BUT... Will MLCad and the LDraw parts library work with Windows XP? Everything I found seemed to reference mostly older versions of Windows.

Thanks all,
Mr. Ignoramus

Sounds good. You'll probably be back here asking for help though. There are some parts that aren't in the library....

Wow man, it's like you read my mind! Laughing

I can't find this one. Or any other lever parts. Where can I find or download them?

Other than that, the learning curve isn't half as steep as I'd expected from reading around here Razz

Hmmmm, there ARE quite a few parts missing, mostly the really recent ones. How often are updates released and/or do folks make their own part files?

(none the less, this thing is more fun than the proverbial monkey barrel Laughing )

I can see you found the lever. Most parts are just a matter of finding them in obscure ways of listing them. Some aren't in there at all. As official updates are never (as far as I can tell) released, you need to download the "Unofficial" files. Probably best to download them to another folder and make a backup copy of the parts folder before putting it in. Just to be on the safe side. Here, you can use the parts tracker to search for parts that aren't there. You will probably have to download subfiles as well. Either click "Parts List" up at the top or use the "Lookup" function up there to find what you're looking for.

Got all that? Wink

More or less Laughing Once I have a part downloaded, how do I get MLCad to see it?

I believe it's in the file menu. "Parts Scanner". It'll take a bit to scan for new parts and ask if you want to make a new parts.lst file or something like that. you say yes, and now it's in the library.

Sounds good?

That did it. It took a while to scan all the parts, which was why I thought it was the wrong option Laughing

Anyway, question #4,846,325 about downloading new parts. If a part has required subfiles, which folder do I save those to? Would it be "PARTS", the "S" folder in Parts, or "P"? I'm guessing P, but I want to make sure I don't send my subfiles off into the depths of electronic oblivion...

(This is the part I need, if it helps any)

If you look about halfway down that page you have referenced, you'll see that THAT part requires two subfiles. One of them happens to be listed as "p/48/5-24cyli.dat" In the "P" folder, you'll find a subfolder called "48". Download those two subfiles to the "48" subfolder, and you'll be off and running.

Happy CADing! Laughing
