OK, from what I can tell, that's pretty interesting... but I've got to be a little blunt. Your pictures suck. Bad. Please, for the love of your MOC, give it another photo shoot with some additional lighting and a steady hand. Sad

Sorry about that, I know the pictures aren't great. I'll have better ones up tomorrow.

Wow! I like the idea of the wheel steering, but I think that the cockpit could be improved. It looks very good!

It's kind of pushing it a little on the recognizability scale otherwise nice build.

As near as I can tell it looks pretty darn cool. Seems a little large to be considered a Pod Racer though. Pictures are just blurry enough to foil me from stealing any good ideas. Wink

Good Luck

All right, all right. I got a bit impatient and did some horrible photography. How are the new pictures? (see first post)

Little help on the Flickr urls? Can't seem to get them to work.

For reference, HTML does not work in here. To post them the right way...
Code:
[url=page url][img]picture url[/img][/url]

I really love the details you have in this, but as a whole I think it's bad. The whole idea of the source vehicle is to race, so you don't need the cargo area or a crew... as it stands it deviates from the original too much for my tastes and almost doesn't fit the contest. I'm giving you this advice in hope you might revise it because I see this doing rather well...

First: ditch the lower platform. The only thing in my mind that should be between the two engines is your steam regulator, which is a brilliant adaptation of the power couplink from the real podracers. If you do one thing and one thing only, let it be that. Second: I'd like to see the "bridge" rebuilt more like a cockpit... again, because this is truer to the source.

As it stands you're building a whole new type of ship that just sort of looks like a podracer but is in fact nothing like it. The idea is to make the same ship - just steam powered. I'm sorry if the contest description was confusing about that.

Hmm... I guess I got a bit carried away with the "new interpretation" part.

The lower deck was done entirely for stability. The energy beam section is far too weak to hold together on its own, so I added a few crossbeams. I'm not really sure how to do that better... Confused

I agree that I don't really like the cockpit section. I had an actual cockpit but changed it because I wanted a pirate ship-type thing.

Thanks for the advice. As much as I hate my stuff getting picked apart, I can see where you're coming from. When I was taking pictures, it sorta' fell apart, so I have to re-build it anyway. Laughing This contest has presented a great challenge for me, and I admit I've been having difficulty the entire time. it's also a nice change for me, since I've never done this before.

To be perfectly fair, the official pod racers were fixed to tan stands... you'll figure something out. Wink

I wouldn't change a thing, other than make the props larger. If I could on mine I would have but nothing else looked as good. I can picture yours in a comic. My first thought was to make a podracer but I had to go with what I love...nice job on yours really cool!

Well, I've been re-building it. The big platform is now gone, and I'm trying to replace it with A LOT of technic framing... It's sort of working. I really liked the big platform on top. Ah well.

The cockpit is also being modified. This is such an unimaginable challenge for me. Shocked

The biggest problem is making it stable without just slapping some plates on it like the official Lego podracers had. I really don't want to have to do that, so I'm building a massive technic monstrosity to hold it together.

Hopefully it will be done in a couple of days so I can post more photos.

I like it alot as it looks in the pictures now. But for reasons other than because it is shaped like Sebulbas racer.

My interpretation of this contest is that the vehicles are exactly the same vehicle as the original, they just exist in some alternate universe where steam is the motive power of choice.

In that respects, this is a bit to far from an idea submission, however, the basics are there and with a little bit of creativity this will be an awesome and awe inspiring submission.

BUMP!

Updated with version 2, after another couple of night building sessions.

The cockpit is closer to the original from the movie, the observation deck is gone, my custom minifigs are gone, Sebulba has been steampunk-ified, and I builta complex skeletal frame for it.

The model is looking a lot better now, but it's still held back by poor lighting. Check my post on flickr.

But yeah, revised edition is great. Loads of detail, nothing looking out of place, this really looks like a steam powered pod racer!

I've always been jealous of photoshop. Your 'shopped pic looks so much better.

I admit, it looks a lot better that way, but I used the ceiling lights and two lamps with 100-watt bulbs to get that picture Short of photoshop, that's the best I can do. And I can't afford Photoshop at the moment.

Glad it looks better now, thanks for the comments and help, everyone.

PS- did I mention that the propellers all spin now? Wink

Turn off your flash and make sure the camera is steady for the shot. The flash washes everything out, and looks very awkward. Even if it comes out lighter, that can be fixed a lot easier.

Updated with an alternate color scheme- basically what I did was sift through all my Legos and pick out all the orange pieces (which were all from the Sebulba's Podracer set) and added them here and there to the set, to give it a bit of color and to help better identify what it is. This is part of my current effort to organize my boxes and boxes of miscellaneous lego by color.

So it's more of an alternate than an update. Which version do you guys like better?
