Awesome! Nice controls in the cockpit. It has front and back engines? Maybe add propellers to rear engines. The thing on the left wing with the rounded top... Is that some form of Steam R2 unit? also, is this based off of the JSF1 or JSF2 or both (I think the JSF1 but am not sure)

Explain?

SF1

It is supposed to look like a droid unit, but it functions as an exhaust. Yes there are two boiler engines. One to power the prop and the other equipment in the front and the bottom boiler is to power the two engines on the back.

I have tried adding props to the rear engines but they are tricky to work with.

Thanks for the input.

Yikes, the competition is getting stiff Smile ! Don is right, this has that wierd steampunky kind of charm. Just a few constructive tips- The whole persona of a Jedi starfighter is sleek, streamlined and pointy. The blunt nose takes away fom that slightly- I'd try either putting two mandibles on the side (A' la Millenium Falcon, JSF 2) or, since that might interfere with the propeller movement, put some cone-like element on the prop's tip. My other gripe is a bit of a rant- people are mostly going to look at the fighter's top surface, so take those two hoses off of the underside and put them up top, along maybe with some more steampunkish rods, where they will be appreciated more. Lucky dog, I dont have any hoses at all to use on my entry! Here is another great piece of work in this contest, it's gonna be rough.

I took your advice and I have come up with a new version. Check it out in the folder. Alright new pictures are up with the deeplinks. I also added a new 3/4 shot for you guys.

I need help choosing which nose piece to use. There should be a picture that shows both of them.

Enjoy.

You definately got the pointy thing going, but the solid black color is clashing with the rest of the fighter. I'm itching to see that alternate finned nose piece actually on the ship. I'm also curious to see if using just the 2x2 smaller cone piece (the one your using currently as the very tip of the nose) would look better alone.

Scrummy.

I hadn't looked at this thread yet, and I'm glad I decided to now. It looks good and has a nice steam-punk feel. I'm really glad you didn't just go - 'Steam Punk? Why not just make a model in brown?' You'v actually used your brain.

But one thing I don't like is the size of the pics. They are way too big and take too long to load. Many people don't want to wait long to load pics, so you may end up with people closing the window with your image before it loads.

Really good work. This is how steampunk should look like (as far as I know anyway..).

I would, however, recommend adding something (greeblings, etc.) on the rear fin; now it looks very plain, especially compared to the detailed wings.

As for the nose piece, I'd suggest using number two. It pleases my eye more and isn't as large compared to the rest of the body of the ship. It's also sleeker and doesn't stick out, unlike the first one.

Smaller pictures would be desirable, though; looking at the ship is rather difficult and the dust on the bricks is quite seeable. Wink
I'd say crop and resize the image so that the height is less than 1000 pixels. Then it'd be okay.

But great work, overall. Smile

Smile Thanks for taking my advice to heart, Joker, it's nice every once in a while to have a conversation with someone who is not, for all intents and purposes, a brick wall Laughing . You can make up your own mind about this, but I like the "Smaller" nose piece from the final two pics best. It's simple, effective in streamlining the ship, and less black is less distracting. You are now a top-tier canidate in this contest. I salute you, sir.

EDIT: Also, the big giant gear near the rear right prop- ugly. Toss it. This ship keeps looking better every time I look at it, but that gear... ugh.

The new fins look rather good. The asymmeticalness - and the impossibility to make it symmetrical - bothers me a bit, though. Not too badly, but still.. What do you think, would a brick-built be better? It would be quite thicker, at least if greebled, but it would also be smoother and better-looking.
Then again, steampunk isn't about smoothness, is it? Wink

The figs are nice, too, though the astromech droid looks weird, being too high to my taste. It looks now very unstable, so I'd make it lower.

As for the propellers on the rear, they look good, but how would they look if they were closer to body of the ship? They do stick out quite a bit, but I'm not sure, however, if the alternative looked any better. Worth trying, I guess.

Much better. Smile
I'd say this is starting to be finished. At least I don't come up with anything to improve.

Very good pictures, by the way, both in terms of size and sharpness.

I'm glad that you guys enjoy the new pictures. I don't know what it is missing. I just have a feeling that it is missing one final detail before it is finished. What do you guys think? What could it be?
