When I linked it, it had content. I wouldn't have linked it otherwise.

Everything is so shakey right now it's not even funny.

Ok So Im not a computer smarts guy, Will I lose my stuff when brickshelf shuts down if my pics are uploaded from my camera, resized, and saved to 'my pictures'? And If so, what is the most efficient way to save them? hah and Where can I upload new MOC pics to MOCpages? Obviously not brickshelf.

so what are you guys getting (besides your own stuff).

my gallery thus far (in no order):
- errbt
- pepaquin
- nori
- moko
- robbed
- rgeiger
- blasterman
- xueren
- kaminoan

I have the Falcon from Pepaquin and Flail, I have Warhawk's UCS models, I have my own gallery.
But there is so much more, random pictures, set pictures, minifig pictures, events...
Where to start, what to save, what to ignore?
Exactly! The greatest loss here is the ability to see everybody else's pics. Personally, I've got my own folder and now I'm archiving as many other accounts as I can. I've just been random-searching for stuff that's worth keeping and so many pictures are coming out of the woodwork. The BS-Archive thread's working on it, but even with two weeks I wonder how much I can get. Here's my quick list.

Rebelrock
dateman
flail
lowlead
Athos
SaberScorp
Rgeiger
Carrieskywalker
pepaquinn
airspreaded [speaknspell]
Seankenney
Kaminoan
RecluceMage
Armorman
Blasterman

Wow, that's prophetic.

Hey, I'm getting "File not public" messages on nearly every folder and image right now. Does this sound like bandwith problems?

Yep. It seems that the page for to pull up a User's folders has been intentionally broken. You can still pull up specific folders.

YEAH! If you don't know the specific names of your folders, you CANNOT download your pictures. Go, Kevin!

Oh. This is to intentionally stop idiots like me from backing up other people's 10-gig accounts and locking up the site. I was 1/3 of the way through getting ACPin's account, and now I don't know how I'll find all of Athos's comics. It works fine if you log in and get your own account, but everything else is fried.

That's it, I'm officially bummed. And for crap's sake don't bash Kevin anymore! We've got to solve this, not give people ammunition to flame each other.

Okay, now I'm ranting. Y'know, it's enough that some of us get scared we lost some of our own pics and then scramble to get them back once the site went back up. But now, we get two weeks and the torturous sliver of hope that we can save the most important, influential files of other people, and then we can't. Fine, we aren't entitled to a damn thing. But don't play with us. Just end it. End it and let us go on with our lives.

The latest in the saga, from the top of Brickshelf pages:

"Notice: Brickshelf will not be shutting down!

We will be offering "featured" accounts for $5/month shortly.
We have received hundreds of supportive emails in the past few days including many who said they would like to contribute financially but did not know how. This has had us rethink the practicality of charging for enhanced features. We plan to do this without reducing current functionality for free users. Thank you for your enormous show of support. IMPORTANT: do NOT try to download the entire site, it causes major problems, slows things down for normal users and you will be permanently blocked."

They keep toying with our emotions. First it seizes operation without notice, then it comes back on only to say it's shutting down, leaving us in a panic to download everything of ours as well as everything we ever bookmarked, then it decides to stay and prevent us from using the crawler.

I can't take this roller coaster anymore.

Somehow, I don't think I'd trust maj.com to be any different, since it's the same person running it.

Personally, this all looks a bit too much like the typical internet business model.

1) Start a service you think people will want. If it's successful ...
2) Declare it too expensive and threaten to shut down OR offer "cheap" special accounts.
3) Shut down eventually anyway.

Honestly, the number of times I've seen this...

My advice: Get your files. Get whatever inspirational files you can. Don't get too attached to any one site.

I knew it! Scare tactics to implement a pay system.

I might pay but at 5 bucks a month, it better be worth it.

Oh, come on people! Rolling Eyes

It's only scare tactics if he's going to start charging everyone to use the site, or reducing functionality for non-paying members. If you don't want to pay, you'll still get the same Brickshelf you've always gotten. For those who do care to pay, they'll get more. I don't see any room for complaining here.

You've got Brickshelf back with all the functionality it had 2 weeks ago. Why gripe now?

True, I admit I don't know that. But the site does say:

Quote:
Brickshelf will not be shutting down!...We plan to do this without reducing current functionality for free users.

Seriously, what better outcome could we possibly have had from this ordeal?

Ah well, the "wait and see" policy may still be the best one...
