That's not for forever isn't it? That's just a server error or whatever?

This will be a long dark day if it is permanent.

One of the greatest source of inspiration for set and model designs, now possibly dead.

By the Force, don't let it be.

Scary. I really hope that's not permanent, as I have many pictures on there that were wiped from my computer when it crashed a cople of weeks ago.

Mind you, if it has gone for good, then why is Andi's sig pic working?

EDIT: For some reason, my sig's working, but Leon's isn't. They are both on my gallery. Damn, this is not how I wanted to end the day! Confused *Worried*

EDIT 2: They're both gone. There is no usual message about 'maintainance' or 'error' on Brickshelf. Just 'discontinued'. This is a dark day indeed. Crying or Very sad

I just posted about this in the Lego Forum, I have several pictures that were only on Brickshelf, although my best pics are on my computer. phew!

I guess my flikr account is about to see some actual use if Brickshelf is gone, though I hope not.

Just as a precaution, I saved all the pics of my stuff from MOC pages. That seems to still be working with brickshelf pics.

Or what Confused

Yeah, it sucks. Looks like it is permanent; most of my pictures were deleted from my computer after I uploaded them on bshelf not to mention all the inspiration that came from other members. A mass email warning that in X-amount of hours bshelf would close would've been nice.

I cant believe it. It does sound like its permanant. When it says "discontinued" it sounds like it's gone for good.

thats because that is what it means

*sigh again*

if you have any important pics on maj, it would be a good idea to back up them now,

also googles server saves alot of stuff, so if you do a google search

like so

you get a nice selection, (the first 6 of 7 being mine) good old google

That makes no sense! And I didn't have any pics saved either, all I have left is what's on my MOCPages and Flickr, which isn't much....

Ugh....this is just horrible.

*Cry of anguished pain*

...

In other news, I discovered today that because I have AT&T-SBCglobal DSL, I get a free Flickr Pro account. Pleasant suprise, but you can't replace what has been lost. Brickshelf was the repository for a lot of Lego history - the galleries, especially older ones (sometimes belonging to people who are no longer active) are like the fossil record of Lego evolution. If that's all gone...

Sad

Thats not a problem to do logistics wise, however like everything else (and I would say this COULD be part of the problem), it all comes down to funding for such a venture.

And no, I'm not volunteering to take it on!!!

Either that or it's some of the members we have at Brickfilms.com who don't know how to compress videos to a preferable size and overload the bandwidth.

I seem to recall this happening before, only back then, they just limited video downloads for a long time.

According to this thread on LUGNET, there was some degree of vague warning that this might happen a couple years ago. However, that's hardly an excuse for shutting the site down now with no further warning. I'm sure there's plenty of new Brickshelf users that weren't around for that message in 2005. Someone at LUGNET has e-mailed Kevin Loch with questions about the fate of brickshelf. His e-mail address can be found here if anyone else wants to ask him anything.

If all of Brickshelf really is gone for good, then it's a sad day for the LEGO community, indeed.

Yeah, I mean, we didn't pay for all this! The least he can do for free is give us some warning!

Rolling Eyes

Come on guys. I seriously do hope it gets back up, but I have almost all of my stuff saved to my hardrive and on Flickr. It could have been hacked, or maybe he got tired of it. But either way it was not his responsibility to keep us happy, he was just doing it out of the kindness of his heart. The sponsers left 2 years ago...it was only a matter of time, I guess.
