it stands for Defective Screen.

i'm on my fifth one. yes, my fifth one, cause the ones i keep getting have dead pixels.

i can honestly say that i tried playing games with it, see if i can tolerate it. kind of hard to do when it's near the center of the screen every single time.

my metal slug advance is collecting dust because of this. i suppose i could whip out the ol' GBA but i like the backlighting of the DS.

here's hoping the fifth one turns out okay.

Wow. That's pretty tough! Shocked I got my DS the week it came out and never had any problem with the screens or dead pixels. Sorry to hear about that, man. Confused

Yeowch, that sucks, Ace-man. Both my sister and I have had ours since launch, and neither of us have had a lick of trouble. I'll keep my fingers crossed this next one turns out better for you.

Hopefully this new one'll work out for you.

I love the DS. I could play those Mario mini-games for hours.

You DO know that this whole pixel problem is covered in the warranty by Nintendo, right Ace?

You send it in, and they will replace that screen, and make it all new.

I have a DS, also, and I have a dead pixel, but i never notice it. the thing is so small, you never notice ir during play. It worries people because some guy freaked out, told the communit (on the nintendo forums) and claimed it messes up the touch sensitivity. Then it makes people worry, and thats why everything is so haywire.

Tell me how Wario Ware Touched! is. Cause im gonna buy it soon, and i want some more opinions on it.

Hope the DS problem work out.

It's gimmick-y, just like the DS

Ug, though dead pixels do occasionally show up on all LCD screens I haven't actually heard (I have seen articles about it, tho) anyone have the problem with the DS...let alone five. Shocked Mine was perfectly fine.

Speaking of DS troubles, the PSP has also been having alot of problems in Japan. Apparently, one batch had tons of dead pixels, dust and dirt pressed into the screen, UMDs flying out, buttons falling off, and the analog 'pad' breaking. And then on another more recent batch the square button sticks. Confused

To be honest, I'm dying for a PSP, but I refuse to buy one in the first six months of the American release. They've SERIOUSLY borked the Japanese PSP, and I'd like to wait to see if they've done the same on the American model.

The most damning bit of info: the Square button is completely off-center of the input, meaning that about 25% of the time when pressed, it doesn't activate the sensor below it and the game doesn't register the button push. When PSP owners complained about this, Sony's response:

"Real gamers learn to adapt to the hardware."

... Yeah, that was a smart thing to say.

Maybe they said that while distracted by the torches and pitchforks being waved in a menacing fashion outside their corporate headquarters.

All of the PSP problems are supposed to be fixed for the US release, of course, they said the same thing about the first batch that broke.

i guess the fifth time's the charm. finally got one and it's charging up now. woohoo!

now about the PSP, i, too, am hesitant about getting one. after reading the reports on the japanese launch and the problems that arose, i'm less and less confident about how good of a system it is.

If I ever do get one, it'll be after the price drops a bit. Wink

Just out of curiosity, what DS games do you have, onions?

Hman- if you dont already, get "Feel the Magic XX/XY" its very very fun Very Happy

Now, I want a PSP, cause I LOVE handheld gaming. BUT...i probably wont get one for one reason (well, maybe alot...)

Battery Life.
I have yet to see a confirmed final batterylife.

Thats why I love the GBASP- 20 hours, then it needs to charge. On my DS, I can go 10 and it needs to charge. Perfect for car trips. (and plane rides)

But...PSP has better graphics, yes...but all these defects better work out, or the Nintendo will continue to rule the Handheld market. (Nokia, just give up. ok?)

Also...whats up with load times on a handheld? Confused It wastes more time and battery, costs more to buy a CD than a cartridge, and the discs can scratchs easily.

Sony: Pull back the PSP, work on it some more, maybe make a clam shell design Exclamation because, that screen is gonna get broke easily. I cna wait. (and please...250? I can get a PS2 and a X-box for that price, and a game for each. used of course)

That's the only game I don't have. (Other than Spider-Man 2) *Starts saving money*

And I agree on the PSP, sure it has great graphics, but the price, load times, (most likely) easily damaged screen, and the constant defects it's been having far outweight that.

Also, concerning PSP battery life: http://psp.ign.com/articles/574/574557p1.html

Seems it can run 3 1/2 hours for normal gameplay, 5 hours for heavy loading gameplay, 24+ hours in sleep mode, 2 3/4 hours for Wi-Fi gameplay, and 10 1/2 hours for MP3s...Decent.

my friend alan went though 6, on the fifth one he let me open it at school and it still had a dead pixel. I laughed so hard at him.
