Yo,

I've been testing a few home theater projectors. IMO the latest Sharps blow the others away. I was wondering if anyone here has one and what their experience is.

I'm thinking of making a projector out of cardboard, fremel lens, and 13 inch TV. Gonna try it in least once, if good more often. Very Happy

Are you talking about front projections or rear projections?

I have a 52" rear projection HDTV from Toshiba. I think it is really good with the exception of two complaints.

One, although it looks great from about a 160 degree angle from the front...in other words you can see it great from the sides. It doesn't do so well in a vertical angle...or to say...if you are standing up within five feet of the tv the picture loses a lot of detail and color.

When I bought the tv I always knew to check how it looks from the sides but I never really thought to check out how it looks from like the floor or if you are above it. It's really not that big of a deal but in a perfect world I would choose to have that corrected.

Second, I don't really have any experience with widescreen tv's to compare this too...but I wish my tv did better at choosing which aspect ratio to display in when watching tv or dvds. My tv has 4 different settings to watch the screen in and it has to be switched manually...where as I wish it was smart enough to choose which setting to use to perserve the true aspect ratio of the program. Also, if a tv channel is playing a movie in widescreen...the tv doesn't adjust to this but instead plays it like full screen with black bars. (In technical terms, it treats tv channel widescreen like it's non-anmorphic).

I saw an HD projector at Costco that I reeeeally really want. But I'll be okay with the 30-inch widescreen HDTV I should be able to afford by the end of the summer. Smile

Inches? I thought this was about projectors, not projection televisions.

Maskatron...that's pretty cool. I considered that route myself but I didn't have a place drop it out of my ceiling and a friends parents have their own movie theater in their house and it uses front projection...I wasn't to impressed with the results.

Now I could easily say their projector is atleast 5 years old so I'm sure things have improved.
